it's pretty easy really.

first. you just have to scuff the tail lights real good. no shiny surface anywhere.

second. spray the light with clear coat. let it dry completely. over night or something is good. this seals the light and prevents the base coat reducer from cracking the plastic and leaving deep scratches in it.

third. Rescuff the taillight. Be sure not to break through the clear on this step though, or it will give you problems later. just enough to make the light not shiny. a scuff pad or a scotch bright is the best.

fourth. mix up some black base coat, at about a 5 to 1 ration of reducer to black. it should be REALLY thin. when you swirl it around the cup it should barely have any black pigment to it.
*note: you may have to play with the reduction for different brands of paint, but 5 to 1 does pretty good with dupont chroma base and matrix paints.

fifth. Clear the tail lights. again. two good coats should do it.

sixth. Buff if need be, and install.

I've actually never USED candy black on them. I don't see why you couldn't. but you'd be payin a lot less for just regular black paint I think. candy is usually pretty expensive, just because it says candy. and all that really means is there's less pigment in the paint anyway, and more of the thick filler stuff.

and also no I haven't sold it yet, I'm lettin my boy CT drive it though, he helped me build on it some, and he was out of a truck for a while, while he was workin on his, so I let him borrow the one without AC. haha I still need to fix that when I get it back. I'm also hoping letting him drive it will make him want to bag another vehicle. he's done a few in the past. and he's a damn good fabricator.

and yes. as long as they have time to FULLY dry you can do whatever you want to with them, they just need the time to outgass as much as possible, so you don't get any solvent pop.

solvent pop is when you put to much chemical on something in different coats, and they dry to rapidly. the outside coat will dry before the undercoats do, and since they have to expell gas it floats to the top in little bubbles instead of coming out nice and evenly. it makes a bubbley pitty surface that you usually can't get out, by any other method than sanding it all off!

sure I can. just bring em to me. with the color you want on it. or I can order the paint myself. but I can't gaurantee a color match . but with as little color that goes on it with the red still kind of shining through. it shouldn't be that big of a deal.

OH! and don't forget 50$

let me know the paint code bruce if ryan cant make it up at his job we have an in house matrix mixing system that i can just type in and it will tell me what all i need to make the color. i can make it for u and it should be under 20 bucks or so for the paint. i can allso add more reducer to make it more thiner to make it more transparent to see more of the red or what not just let me know and find out if ryan cant get it made at work and i can make it at my job for you. then give it to you or ryan

I can GET the color no problem. but spraying new color out of a can doesn't insure the right color match. so it may be a shade or two off. but with as transparent as it's going to be it might not be that big of a deal. and I should only need about a 1/2 pint.
